The trail is family-friendly, and we even saw kids hiking, but it does require a basic level of physical fitness. I highly recommend renting a wooden walking stick from the local kids at the entrance—it makes the climb easier and supports the community. If at any point you feel tired, there’s always the option to go up by horse, but it’s really not necessary for most people. The hike is manageable and absolutely worth it. “Did the tour with Edwin today and it was a very lovely experience! I would highly recommend this tour to any English and Spanish speakers. You do need to buy a park entrance pass separately, but keep in mind all Tikal tours operate this way from what I saw. Its 150 ketzel and you can buy online or the bus pulls up to an building where you can pay on the way there, if that isn't your cup of tea. “Pacaya exceeded my expectations. the ascent was a continuous steep climb with barely any flat surface. All but one person in the group had to ride a horse going up. But the view from the top was definitely amazing. The guide also had some marshmallow he roasted using steam seeping from the ground. Only complaint was that I was picked up 1 hr later than what was advised. And the driver seemed to try to make up for time by driving extremely fast.”

Then I was taken to the workshop where the instructor, David, showed us how to craft the jade into a piece of jewelry. I was so nervous about messing it up but David was patient. He helped to guide each of us to make it and promised he could fix any errors. It went by so fast and I wished I could have stayed longer. I would recommend this activity to anyone…”
