“Our guides Aiden and Alex were amazing! We took regular breaks on the way up and they made us delicious food at the top! The hike is tough but if you’ve done any hikes in Patagonia for example then we found those to be harder. Take note that the toilet is a hole in the ground with no toilet paper or anywhere to wash your hands, so advice would be take enough toilet paper with you and some hand wipes! The a-frame cabins are equipped with 4 single mattresses on the floor which we shared with another couple. It was warm enough for the majority of the night but before…”

“Great acatenango experience. Willy, Luden, Alex and Edwin were our tour guides and were very good and helpful, making sure everyone stayed together. When I got sick they gave me an altitude pill that helped immensely. A few things to note: the group was relatively large, and we took lots of breaks to accommodate slower hikers. Also, it's definitely a budget experience, so don't expect luxurious accommodations (although the view from base camp was stunning). The last thing I'd recommend is to bring plenty of cash and lots of extra snacks. There are little shops on the way up and down to buy water, etc. but you'll want something more…”

“The experience itself was amazing, however the company was not clear about a few things: you get given 2L of water at the start of the hike, and you have to give 1L of it at the basecamp to get tea and coffee. Additionally, you carry a frozen lasagna with you, which is then heated up, mine was mostly cold. The guides were good, but they kept on walking ahead and there were moments where I felt I was left behind, especially in the dark. However, it was an amazing experience, I would really recommend the experience to anyone who doesn't mind a physical challenge and a bit of cold.”

I am only giving 4 stars because it was advertised as an English tour, but the guides spoke very little English so there was no history or fun facts. The group was also quite large at 24 people, so there was a LOT of waiting for people who go at different paces. Makes sense for the cheaper price, but it was slower than I was expecting. Food was decent, sleeping arrangements were comfortable considering we were in the mountains but we did not get a pillow and it was very cold at night. Dress warm! Overall, I would recommend…”

Loved the fuego hike. Although we had one girl who clearly could not make it and the guide kept trying to help her up (eventually she had to give up) which held us up from seeing sunrise at top. Food was delicious, the cabins were awesome. We were provided a sleeping pad and bag (no pillow so if you need one bring one!) 10/10 amazing. Once in a lifetime experience”
